Transcription: There are two conceptual alternatives in making an addition to a house. To make a seamless continuation of what already exists, or to counterpoint what exists. This house by architect Frank Israel is clearly the latter. The photographs of the completed project intentionally avoid showing us the addition and the original house together because they are visually unrelated. The drawings do give you at least an abstract sense of architectural context, but the architect's point here is to emphasize the autonomy of the edition as an art object unrelated to the mixed conventions which surround it.
